Launched on June 29, 1865 by Robert Steele, Greenock, For Shaw, Lowther & Maxton, London, ARIEL was composite built, with dimensions of 197.4 feet X 33.9 feet X 21 feet a net and under deck tonnage of 853 and a coefficient of under deck tonnage of 0.60. The ARIEL was a very successful tea clipper.
