This print shows the early stages of the famous battle Between the CSS Alabama and the USS Kearsarge on the 19 th of June 1864, seven miles off the coast of Cherbourg, France. Since the floor of the ocean at that location contains a lot of red clay, the battle became known in naval circles as the "Red Clay Minuet".
